Week 12 – From Fear to Courage

Week 12 is here and I think I had highlighted the entire chapter of Master Key 12. This is one of my favorites so far.

3. We know that thought is building for us the thing we think of and actually bringing it nearer, yet we find it difficult to banish fear, anxiety or discouragement, all of which are powerful thought forces, and which continually send the things we desire further away, so that it is often one step forward and two steps backward.

4. The only way to keep from going backward is to keep going forward. Eternal vigilance is the price of success. There are three steps, and each one is absolutely essential. You must first have the knowledge of your power; second, the courage to dare; third, the faith to do.

In the past weeks we have discussed knowledge of power, and faith. Today I will discuss COURAGE.

How powerful it is to understand that fear is actually chasing away the actual thing we seek. I have had to deal with anxieties for a long time and it has become part of my personality. Since MKMMA, these anxieties have greatly diminished in volume, to the point of me hardly noticing anymore. What a huge success! In 12 weeks I do not feel anxious anymore! Most of it I attribute to continually attempting to do the 7 Day Mental Diet and doing 15-30 minutes sits.

The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines courage:

as mental or moral strength to venture, to do something, to persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.

Courage is all in the mind and how we choose to think. In the 7 day mental diet, Emmet Fox writes ‘the food which I furnish my mind determines the whole character of my life‘. We can choose to entertain weak thoughts or ones of power. We have had the project this week of creating flash cards of all our accomplishments no matter how great or small and flipping through them several times a day as needed. Such a small project but what a huge impact! So instead of listening to the voice inside my head saying ‘I cant do this’ I flip through my cards and say instead ‘I CAN do this!’ THIS IS THE EXACT DEFINITION COURAGE. Courage is the mental strength to push through that voice and to act accordingly to overcome the difficulty or circumstance.

A great video on Reprogramming Your Brain to Overcome Fear by Olympia LePoint

The 3 Steps of Overcoming Fear

a) Name and reject your fear. We are told that your subconscious mind has no power against your voice. I have been practicing this within our daily life to release anxieties that pop in my head throughout the day. It works!

b) You must reprogram your brain with different thoughts as we are doing in MKMMA. Tell yourself that you are going to make a big difference and make an action plan. Speak positive affirmations with feelings and visualize yourself successful in the future.

c) You must rebuild the neurons in your brain and take actions. Take action in direct opposition of your fear.  When someone has fear, the frontal lobe that controls problem solving is completely turned off. When we take action in the direct opposition of our fears, neural  transmitters are created within our brain, turning off fear and building and creating new pathways, turning on our frontal lobe. It is our frontal lobe that is our creative brain and gives us the ability to solve problems.

It is action that cures fear. When we delay action through indecision and postponement we make the fear bigger in our mental minds. This is not what we want to happen in our mind! So take action and “do it now!“ Become courageous and Be the Hero in your Journey! As Hanaal points out in sentence 4 ‘The only way to keep from going backward is to keep going forward.’

Great stuff, Catherine! 🙂 No one… (including me) would ever have guessed I would become an aerospace engineer when i was in high school. Courage and action are TOTALLY the deal… Combine with imagination and desire… So powerful.
